Fibromyalgia/RLS/interrupted sleep

Posted by dreamspirit on February 23, 2005 at 19:28:52:

I am knew to this so please bear with me. I have been searching for information relating to my problem with sleep. I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and I now know that I have RLS which I have had pretty much all of my life (it's genetic). Thank goodness for the research that has finally proved that it wasn't all in my head. I have not had what others refer to as a "good night's sleep" in over 25 years and I am beginning to believe that there is no such thing. I constantly dream, I ache, my arms falls asleep and I can't get comfortable no matter what position I am in. My brother has RLS and in one month he only had a total of 38 hours of sleep which contributed to a massive heart attack. I do take a medication for the RLS and heaven help me when I forget. But I do not know what to do to experience this thing called a "good night's sleep". Have you ever gotten to the point that you don't want to go to bed because you know it's going to be "another one of those night?". After so many years you learn to accept it as much as you can but I have been wondering if there are others who suffer from the same things and who have found any answers. I know some of it is due to psychological things, but there's no changing the past. I would greatly appreciate any feedback so that I don't feel so alone with this and perhaps find some help, anything would be an improvement. I feel kind of funny doing it this way but I would rather hear from those who "understand" rather than from the medical field. Gone that route.
