I *think* the same thing happens to me. I wouldn't describe it as a seizure though. It usually happens to me 1-4 times a night.
This is what happens. After I finally decide to actually 'go to sleep' and turn off the TV etc, I will get comfortable. Just as I start to fall asleep I will wake up and sort of leap upright, wide awake.
The reason for this sudden awakening is because 'I felt like I was about to die.'
I have two theories for what is going on. 1. anxiety (but oddly I'm not stressed or terribly anxious about anything.) 2. I have become *aware* of the process of my brain switching to unconciousness and I mistake that sensation with dying.
Usually when I jump awake I do so because I feel like I'm having a heart attack, or my heart stopped beating. BTW I'm a 29 yo, male, and work-out 5 times a week. I'm in great shape and not likely in danger of this.
Whenever I jump awake I always feel my pulse. It's always strong and steady. It's never even elevated. What's really disturbing though, is that my brain has apparantly tried adapt in order to scare me awake. I got used to the normal weird sensation and it got creative. A few weeks ago I have a sensation that a major artery in my right arm exploded.
Whenever I wake up I instantly realize that I'm fine, but it's a pain in the ass. I actually do get enough sleep but the worst part is I can never really feel nice and comfortable when I'm trying to go to sleep because I know this is going to happen.
