This has been occurring since high school, so for about 6 or 7 years now. I have no trouble falling or staying asleep, and am generally well-rested in the morning. However, if I awaken during the middle of a dream, I am a complete write-off for the remainder of the day. I am groggy to the point where, quite literally, it is a challenge to walk straight and hold my head up. I feel unsteady on my feet, my mind is scattered, and I am forced to cab to and from work on those days because my motor skills are so affected. Sometimes this wears off by late afternoon, but generally I'm in bed as soon as I can after work to try to shake the tiredness.

On some mornings I can clear this up by snoozing for another half hour or so-- I find that as long as I am awakened the second time without dreaming, I'm fine. A little sleepy, but otherwise fine. However, I don't have unlimited snoozing time in the mornings, and although in high school it was easy enough to miss the morning, I cannot continually take time off of work. My productivity greatly suffers on days like these, and it is very frustrating because I know I am getting enough sleep.

I did some research on the internet but can't really seem to find any sort of disorder that matches up with what I am describing, nor can I find enough mentions of it for it to be considered a normal occurrence. Does anyone else suffer from anything similar, or have any info that may shed some light on this? I do not have a family physician and the local sleep clinic (at the Saint John Regional Hospital- Atlantic Health & Sciences Corp) works on referrals only.
