I am trying to find out if this is a sleep disorder. This has only started happening to me in the last 5 years or so. I am a 45-year-old male. If I fall asleep with my chin down towards my chest, I wake up gasping for air. At times so sever I cannot get air for what seems like minutes. Almost to the point of passing out. But I have not yet passed out due to this. Not all episodes are so sever. But the ones that are, are very scary. I have learned to make sure I fall asleep with my neck straight. But on occasion this still happens. It’s as if my esophagus relaxes and kinks cutting of my air. It takes a while for it to open after I wake up. Should I be worried about this? Or will it always eventually relax and open up before I pass out? Thank You.
