Im 22 and have experienced sleep paralysis in bouts of once a month and sometimes every night for a month. It scares me and disrupts my sleep and makes me very tired but I was told it was harmless so just got on with it.

However last night I had a particularly bad bout where a man was in my room and dragging me to the bottom of my bed and my heart was beating so fast I really thought I was going to have a heart attack. I was saying telling myself in my head that I had to calm down or I was going to kill myself. I was perfectly aware that it was just a terror and knew I had to wake myself up but it took way longer than usual to come out of it.
When I did fully wake up I was at the end of my bed and my heart was nearly coming out of my chest it was beating so fast. I know Im young and healthy but is it actually possible to be so terrified in your sleep of something that isnt there that you induce a heart attack?
Thanks for any help I feel silly to go to my doctor over what I am sure he will say are just nightmares
