Posted by SheriLedding on October 29, 2007 at 09:49:18:My boyfriend is currently in a year away from college to recover from a bout with depression. When we started dating, he was dealing with it on a daily basis, and there were a large variety of symptoms he and I had to handle regularly. Now, however, thanks to some changes in diet, vitamins, and medication, he's back on his feet and coming back to school to finish his degree.
One of his symptoms, however, never went away. When he gets tired (legitimately tired, not random sleeping or anything) he gets irritable, which I know is normal, but it sometimes gets excessive. He will do almost anything to get to bed, or fall asleep in weird places. However, at this point, he's still coherent. When he does find somewhere to sleep, he enters this strange stupor.
He basically pares life down to one driving motivation - Staying exactly where he is. He will do anything, say anything, not to have to move. Normally he's very caring and loving and he's well aware of his responsibilities and the things that need to get done. However, at this point, nothing else matters. He lies to me, yells at me, says hurtful things, and has actively pushed me out of bed to keep me from trying to make him move. This stupor can last anywhere from a few minutes to a couple hours, and he often either awakens from it and is fine or eventually falls "all the way" asleep and is fine.
After several fights and difficult times, we've determined that he doesn't remember anything during these stupors, for example thinking it took 3 minutes when it was an hour an a half or longer.
The last experience with this problem led us to a decision to find out what's wrong. We don't want this to come between us and he realizes how impossible it must be for me to deal with hours of him being offensive and near-violent when he can't do anything about it.
Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?
