You shouldn't feel silly talking about this to your doctor. Seems you are experiencing sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations. To have these once a month is usually not a problem but to have them every night for a month you may need treatment for them or they could be a symptom of another sleep disorder going on.

You should talk to a sleep specialist in your area.
