You should ask your sleep doc to write a letter to your insurance company explaining the situation. If you had been diagnosed with Narcolepsy they would cover it. Your diagnosis is similar to N but without its classic symptoms other than excessive sleepiness.

Many times a doctor can convince the insurance to cover a med not on their list but it may take a couple letters.

Also, ritalin is cheap and was used a lot for N until provigil was available. Some patients still prefer it but it has side effects and addiction problems.
