I can sleep, but it's awful

I started getting migraines and suffering from extreme daytime exhaustion a few years back. I feel like I dream all night, and every morning I wake up tired. The dreams are extremely vivid and unfortunately are often nightmares. I fall asleep quickly and get the average amount of sleep. I went to a neurologist and got a sleep test; it turns out that I don't get any "good sleep." I alternate really quickly between light sleep and REM, something like 40 times a night. The doc prescribed topamax, and essentially, it was a miracle drug. No dreaming, no headaches, woke up energized, etc. But then, months into it I got granuloma annulare. That is a separate long story. Feel free to look it up. Long story short, I had to stop taking the topamax. Everything is back to the way it was before the topamax. I am a ghost of myself. I don't have the money to go back to the doctor right now. All the over-the-counter sleep aids seem to be for insomnia, which is not my problem. I fall asleep very quickly once I'm in bed. Anyone have this problem and find a solution? Any advice? Thanks in advance. PS - my sleep study ruled out apnea, restless leg, and narcolepsy.
