Posted by leon on September 21, 2009 at 05:21:09:My Partner who is a 65 year old male has over the past 4 to 5 years been having fainting/dizzy spells. These happen only every 4 to 5 months and usually happens when he has dozed off or in bed before sleeping and when waking up.it has also happened while taking a stroll when he started talking funny. He did not pass out but we had to stop while he held on to me or else he would collapse it lasted a few secs and he was ok.When this first happened I thought he had passed out but I now realise that he is concious and his eyes are open He appears to be able to hear me but cant move. This normally only lasts for about 30 secs to a minute. After an episode he feels nauseus and then sleeps for a day or two with minor repeat episodes 3 to four times. Once he has rested he is up and about again. He usually does not have problems sleeping , I have noticed that he sometimes makes strange noises in his sleep and sometimes rubs his legs together. Other times it seems that he is not breathing then gasps from breath. Other times he has a normal nights sleep. The attacks usually happen when he is stressed or when something bothers him. He has had brain scans etc which were clear, The Neurologist could not find anything wrong and seemed to think he was suffering from epileptic fits. He tried the medication but said it made him feel awful and stopped. He is on no medication at presentand we are trying to work through it when it happens. We have not been to a sleep clinic as its very very expensive and the med aid will not pay. Any help and suggestions will be appreciated
