I am a 20 year old female that has had what I can best call a sleeping disorder. I have had nocturnal some-what paralysis and dysesthesias for the past two years when I sleep during the day. It started as a weird tingling sensation moving down my spine, that has evolved in the past year moving down my legs, and recently a tingling-shock feeling in my neck. This wave of tingling or some odd sensation overcomes my body starting from the spine. Most of the time I am aware that I am laying in bed or on the couch and can hear the tv in the background, however I cannot open my eyes. Usually I can jerk myself actually "awake" within 30 seconds and the feeling goes away immediately. If I am really tired as soon as I close my eyes the weird sensation begins again. Sometimes occuring 7 or 8 times in a 2 hour period of what may be considered sleep (even though I am aware of my surroundings and I know that my brain is working while I try to make myself open my eyes and wake up because I have thoughts of how uncomfortable the feeling is and I wish to wake up).

A lot of the time I can force this feeling upon myself if I think about the sensation before I try to fall asleep. I have tried doing this so maybe I could try to control this. However, most of the time the sensation is involuntary, and recently has gotten worse. Several times I have felt my heart rate rise very fast, where I could feel the pounding in my chest and sometimes the sensations are accompanied by extremely painful cramps in my abdomen( like something kicking really hard in my stomach), which also stop upon me waking.

For a while I got used to the strong electrical tingling because it was happening so often; however, the pain and the rapid heart rate has made me terrified to fall asleep because I do not know what to expect next. I feel like it's getting worse, and I don't like not having control of my body when my mind is fully aware.

I have not been able to find anything related to a disorder like this except for sleep paralysis, which I feel does not really cover all of the sumptoms. There is very little information I have found online relating to any experiences like mine.

The weird thing is that it does not happen at night time and it happens 90% of the time when I sleep during the day.

If there are any ideas, or anyone has experiences anything similar to this or has gotten a diagnosis please let me know. Any information will be valuable. Thanks!
