Many people I know (myself included) have experienced split-second "blackout" or "whiteout" moments when sleepy -- especially when driving or sitting in a church service or related situation where you are trying to stay awake, and manage to, but shut down for just a second or less. Is there an official term for that? Any information would be most appreciated (I'm writing a story where sleep plays a major role, and this would help immeasurably). Thanks.
