hypnic jerks

help! Starting several months ago, i started being plagued by a sudden jerk as I fall asleep AND this jerking occurs in the early morning about an hour before I would be getting up. It is getting to be maddening. My wife is shopping for twin beds. There is no humor in this anymore. Anybody have any insight? I have done a little research and am aware of the infrequent hypnogogic hallucination but this early morning thing is terrible.
