My mother has endured by father's hypnic jerks (occuring at 15 - 20 second intervals) for 52 years. But over the years this progressed to banging his fist against the headboard or wall with each jerk. The latest addition is periodic yelling with jerking motion. I don't think this is just nerves. They need help.
