Posted by Angi on June 27, 2000 at 12:17:18:My email let me know someone had posted a reply to one of my posts. This person wanted to know about Provigil. Since I can not find that post I will answer their questions here. They said that their DR told them that Provigil had no side effects. And they were a little wary of that statement.
My reply:
You should be a little wary of that statement. Any medication is going to have some side effects. Provigil (in clinical trials) had the least side effects of any stimulant. It is also considered to be the least addictive. A certain percentage of people will experience very bad side effects to any medication.
The side effects that I have heard of or experienced (with Provigil) include the following:
Headache - I rarely have a headache due to Provigil and it is usually cured with any OTC pain reliever. My DR said approx. 1/2 of the people he has had try Provigil have had unbearable headaches.
Tense Jaw (or other muscles) - I would imagine this would happen with any stimulant. I experienced this for about a month before it went away.
Increased RLS - My RLS (restless legs syndrome) has increased a little. Once again I would imagine this would happen with any stimulant.
Urine - Gee this is a fun one to talk about. I have always had a "little bladder". Made frequent restroom trips, etc. That has actually decreased. However, I and many others on the Narcolepsy forum (who take Provigil) have noticed a strong odor to urine. One person replied it smelled like urine concentrate.
Depression or Apathy - Many people on the Narcolepsy forum have had problems with depression. But some have had no problems. I found that splitting my dose in 1/2 helped. (Take 1/2 dose in morning and 1/2 dose at noon)
For further information try a search on the Narcolepsy Forum. Search the word "provigil", you will find more info than I could ever remember.
Also you can check out the provigil web site. www.provigil.com
Good Luck,
Angi
