Posted by Alex Naiman on July 18, 2000 at 18:13:02:Hi, I'm a 21 year old student, and I am wondering if I have hypersomnolence. The thing is I function just fine when I'm moving, or doing some mentally exiting work -- in the morning and evenings. But there is absolutely nothing concievable that will make me stay awake through the afternoon. As soon as 12:00 rolls around, I feel like I've been shot by a tranquilizer dart, and I have to sleep for at least 3 hours.
If I'm driving, I feel drowsy very seldom, but if I'm a passenger, I conk out at once, and sleep as long as the ride takes. If I'm watching TV, I might as well not bother turning it on, I nod off in 2 seconds. But I can study for hours for tests, play games(as long as it's not in the 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM period) and basically have an otherwise healthy life. What's going on here?
Sleepy, yet not Dopey
