why do I cry in my sleep

Ever since I was a child I have often woken up from a deep sleep crying. Some times I have had dreams that are sad to me and would dismiss the crying do to the sadness of the dream, although more offten then not I wake crying for no apparent reason. I would like to know if there is a sleep disorder do to this?
