It is interesting that you perceive this experience as pure evil. My mother who practices her faith and attends retreats has experienced a similar event. She once experienced the event while attending a retreat. The force was on her chest and she felt that is was an evil presence. Her prayers at that moment alleviated her of the presence. I too practice my religion and in fact I am a religious brother. Such an experience is very difficult to ascertain what the source of the experience is. Whether or not it is objective or subjective evil would be difficult to determine. The mind/brain is a powerful instrument. Catatonic people is just one example. Schizophrenia is another. But prayer is a natural and powerful source of contact with our loving creator and I know it helps my mother and the people in her life.

Give prayer a try. Afterall, nobody can explain what started the "Big Bang", an unintelligent source of pure energy is rather illogical as well as the theory that the universe was never created but just keeps expanding and collapsing ad infinitude. Or the vacuum theory, which is partially true but could never be the answer for the creation of the universe. A rational, intelligent creator seems to be the best logical answer to me. And quite possibly our Creator used the Big Bang to be the impetus to jump start creation.

Therefore, try or continue with prayer. I think often times objective evil, if it exists, will attempt to stifle those individuals who are a possible threat to the presence of evil.
