Smileeys -
From every thing I have read, you do not have to have all of the symptoms in order to have narcolepsy. But the most debilitating symptom is the "excessive daytime sleepiness".
Like you, I also would have said that I am not excessively sleepy. My in-laws had to point out that I sleep too much.
One big question is do you have cataplexy? Do you feel a weakness or loss of muscle tone during extreme emotions (such as laughter, surprize, fear, anger, etc.)? Do you ever have times where you feel weak? Do you have times where your legs feel "wobbly" or that they won't support you?
One thing I did that did help with the vivid dreams and sleep paralysis was to give up caffeine completely. Of course when I did this, I discovered that I was pretty sleepy. :)
Good Luck
