I cannot wake up !!!!!

Posted by Trav on October 12, 2000 at 13:23:44:

I think I may have a few sleeping problems. First, I cannot fall asleep. My lifestyle is highly fast paced and stressful. I try to let work @ work when I leave though. Some nights it takes me anywhere from 1 to 4 hours to fall asleep. I have tried meditation, relaxation, working out, breathing. The only thing I can get to work for me is to read until I cannot keep my eyes open anymore, which would be the 1 to 4 hours. Once I do fall asleep, I am done. I sleep like a rock. Often swearing during the night, tossing, turning, laying the wrong way or across the bed, but I hardly ever wake up during the night. Which brings me to my next problem. I cannot wake up. I am 26. This has been going on for 10 years now. My mom used to pour a glass of cold water on me to get me up. Unfortunately, the first glass of cold water never did anything. It was usually the second or third. Ten years later I still have the same problem. It takes my wife 30 to 60 minutes to get me up every morning. I have 3 super loud alarms that are nothing but a waste of time to set, because the majority of alarms turn off after one hour, which does nothing for me. Once I do rise from the dead, 100% of the time, I am so dizzy I can hardly sit on the edge of the bed. Most mornings I stumble into the kitchen to make some coffee, usually tripping or running into a wall and falling down and going back to sleep. I do not actually know, because my next problem is when I do wake up, I do not remember anything for 5 to 10 minutes after I wake up. Every day my wife tells me what I did that morning and is amazed that I cannot remember any of the episodes. I do not drink alcohol ever, I do not smoke or do any drugs. So why would the first 5 to 10 minutes of my day start off by being in a black out? I would give anything to fall asleep on the mark and wake up at the first sound of the morning. The money spent by me not being able to wake up on time is ridiculous, I have missed at least 10 flights this year alone, Let alone being late to work almost everyday. At least I am in a position where I do not have someone constantly looking over my shoulder at work, but that is not the answer either. Does anyone have any information or similar experiences? Any feedback will be greatly appreaciated.
