Thank you SO much for all the information and for taking the time to pass it on. I can see that your name really fits!

I hope you won't mind if I follow with further questions. I had slept on a high-density foam mattress for years, absolutely loved it, and when I finally had to retire it, I bought another from the same place (for about $350 with the mattress cover). This one has been a disappointment; I've only been using it about six months and it already seems to have a depression (and I do turn/flip it pretty regularly). Any idea why that would be?

Also, I slept on a regular inexpensive egg-crate mattress once when I was in the hospital for surgery. I hated it! I found it hot and uncomfortable, so much so that when the nurses didn't have time to take it off, I managed to get out of bed and strip it off myself. I'm also a hot sleeper, and although it sounds like you think the "open cell" (which I assume is similar to the egg-crate?) is the coolest, I'm afraid the lumpiness would be at best distracting, and at worst, uncomfortable. Do you use the open cell mattress? Can you feel the cells when you lie down on it?

I know you're right to suggest that I go and try these mattresses out in person, but I'm not sure I have the chutzpah to go and lie around on a bed in public! Quite honestly, I'm hoping that if I ask enough questions, I can just order something that will work.

Anyway, thanks again. Your experience and insight are very much appreciated.

Ruby, trying to stay out of the store
