Oh, rats. I had a feeling you'd tell me I had to go to the store, but I can't argue your logic. I would never buy a pair of mail order shoes!

I'm not sure I understand completely about the open-cell vs. closed-cell foam ~ is my high density mattress likely the closed-cell version? Do the open-cell mattresses hold moisture (as in your sponge analogy) from when we perspire? Do they get soggy!? If I understand you correctly, an open-cell mattress doesn't have to have that wavy surface that I don't like? And how often do you have to flip a memory foam mattress ~ or don't you?

My mattress is a 4" foam, twin size (husband retreated to a separate bed as my snoring became spectacular!) on a platform bed with no box spring. I bought it from a place that sells only foam mattresses, cushions, etc. where I had bought my first one that I loved. Now that my snoring has been replaced by a very attractive hose and mask assembly, we'd like to get back to a big bed (big bucks!), so I guess I was hoping for a cost-effective and sleep-effective interim solution until we can afford the larger investment.

Again, thanks so much for your generous contribution of time and information (I read every word)~ I'm dying to get a new mattress, and this is helping me feel much more confident about making a decision.

Ruby, a little closer to the store
