Honest Info About Mattresses (From Apnea Forum 49)

Hi Everyone.

There seems to be great confusion about mattresses and the impact they have on sleep. This is mostly because no one has done any good studies on how different sleep surfaces affect the body. Personally, I think the mattress manufacturers are afraid of such studies because they don't dare have the word get out that their $2000 mattress may not give any better sleep than their $400 mattress!

Having done a search of the archives, it is clear that there is very little good information to be had about mattresses. There have been a lot of questions asked, but very few answers other than personal preferences.

I am lucky enough to have a good education in a variety of different types of mattresses (Air, Water, Foam, Innerspring). I have also been studying up on sleep disorders and how they affect people.

If anyone has a question about mattresses, I would be happy to answer any question that I can. I will address them in as brand-neutral a way as I can, sticking to general information about types.

Hopefully, since I have nothing to sell you, you might use me as a resource for an honest answer. It would be my honor and pleasure.

(PS -- There are 800 brands of mattress in the US with remarkably minor differences between most of them. Unfortuantely, if you ask about anything other than a national brand, I will not likely have heard of it. But if you tell me what type of mattress it is, I may be able to help considerably. thx)
