The problem with your theory is that usually people with sleep apnea have *better* breathing when their heads are slightly elevated, not worse. Their airways are LESS pinched in this position. Some go so far as to sleep in a recliner to elevate their heads, and I bet nearly all of us slept with two pillows (I still do, even though I don't need them both now). It's true that many have worse apneas on their backs. But this is usually because the tongue slides back into the throat easier, not because the airway is pinched.
