What is a pillowtop mattress?

Is it the same as memory foam? My husband also has peripheral neuropathy, and we have been considering investing in a (very expensive!) memory foam mattress on the premise that it would help his hurting feet, especially his heels. I would hate to spend that amount of money and find that it only made his problem worse.
