Alcohol can have that effect. Caffeine will disturb sleep also but usually more difficulty getting to sleep in the first place.
If your mind is spinning or stressed when you wake up, I suggest screening for depresssion or anxiety.
As you do get sleepy in the afternoon, thyroid excess seems less likely.
If avoiding alcohol and caffeine after noon doesn't help, see your Doc.
