boyfriend aggressively initiating sex while asleep

Posted by nevergirl on January 26, 2001 at 10:53:34:

this has actually been going on for a few years, but until recently, i hadn't thought that much about it. sometimes (three times in the past two weeks) my boyfriend, somewhat aggressively tries to have sex with me in the middle of the night when we've been asleep for hours. the odd thing is, i wake up instantly, but he rarely does and when he does, he is quite confused and usually just rolls over and falls back asleep. once, he woke me up this way and i assumed he was awake b/c he was talking however he wasn't, and when i said something, he woke up and was very upset b/c he said he was afraid he was hurting me. last night for example, i woke up and he was kissing and groping me then he was trying to pull me ontop of him. i told he to stop, that i was sleeping and he reluctantly did, but this morning he didn't remember. i've asked if he remembers an arousing dream, or anything that might cause him to do this, but he never does. he is in his late 20's and healthy. we have been together for 8 years, living together for 3 and a half. i do know he had the tendency to sleepwalk as a child, but i don't know that much about it. has this happened to anyone else?? could it possibly be related to REM behavioral disorder? does he need to seek help? i would greatly appreciate any responses to this. thanks so much for your help.
