Hi, I have experienced sleep paralysis quite a few times in my life. More when I was younger, in my teens, etc. ( I was picked on tremendously and didn't have too great a teenage life). As I got older, they've slowed down, and now I haven't had this happen in a few years or so. (I'm 30 now)
I used to be really scared of it, but I've learned how to wake myself up. When I'm "paralysed" my arms are always stuck to my sides, and my legs are stuck out straight, and I of course, cannot move. I've learned to rock myself side to side to wake myself up. It works with just one "rock" (moving to the right like a push off, then really hard to the left, and that jerks me out of it) Weird I know, but it works!
Sometimes, that doesn't always work, so at that point, I will sit up for 5-10 minutes, and let my body fully wake up, then go back to sleep. That always works.
Hope this info helps!! Kristina
