Posted by TiredMan on June 24, 2001 at 17:42:11:I have had excessive daytime sleepiness for a number of years now. I've had my blood tested. I don't have a thyroid problem. I don't have diabetes. I don't have MS. I don't have CFS or Fibromialgia. I have had two sleep studies done at a sleep lab. The first one showed no sleep apnea. I slept 90% of the time there. I didn't have any restless leg. I also didn't have any awakenings during the night. My oxygen level was great. They decided to run another sleep test followed directly by a MSLT. The sleep test came back with the same results. My MSLT had abnormal readings. I fell asleep within 4 minutes on each of the naps. I did not have any REM sleep during those naps. I have high blood pressure and have put on almost 100lbs in the last 8 years. I have no energy to do what I want to do. The doctors have diagnosed me with Idiopathic Hypersomnia. They put me on Ritalin 10mg 3X a day. This was ineffective and so now I'm taking 20mg at 8am, 10mg at 11:30, and 10mg at 3 or 4. This has helped somewhat. My wife has had some problems with this since day one. I need some advice from someone out there. She asked the docs if more tests should be done to rule out any other disorders, conditions or diseases that have excessive sleepiness and or loss of energy as their symtoms. The docs have said that based on the MSLT they are very sure of their diagnosis. What other tests can be done. Is their anything else this might be. What else should I do or not do. I don't see the doctors again for about 1 1/2 months. Please help.
