Hi April,

You have come to the right place.

There are a variety of reasons why you could be experiencing the problems you are: Sleep Apnea and Narcolepsy are the first two that come to mind with your brief description.

With Sleep Apnea, you can be getting a lousy night's sleep, even though your perception is that you have slept the night through. It is a problem that prevents you from spending much time (or ANY!) in the parts of sleep where you get rested. There is a forum dedicated specifically to this problem that you might want to look into.

With Narcolepsy, there is a malfunction of some kind in the sleep process that can cause you to feel overwhelming sleepiness during the day. Getting good sleep through the night will not help this.

There are also a couple of other things that might be going on, too. The trick, now, is to try to narrow things down!

Elsewhere here on Sleepnet.com is a "Sleep Test" that you might want to try taking. It may help you find a direction. If you click on the button on the top of the page that says "Home" it will take you to the screen that has the connection to the "Sleep Test."

Once you answer a variety of questions, it will direct you to likely causes and give very brief descriptions. You can then look into some of the different information areas to get better details.

My only suggestion is not to make assumptions. Don't let yourself say, "I couldn't have THAT!" cuz almost anyone can have almost any type of sleep disorder. The more open you are to any kind of answer, the more likely you will be to find the RIGHT answer.

If the sleep test suggests what kinds of things might be going on, then go to the appropriate forum for that problem and ask questions. You will find that there are TONS of people here who would like nothing more than to try to help!

Good Luck,
Honest Expert
