Posted by Bad Dream on June 28, 2001 at 15:57:52:Hi,
I have been going to doctors for my problems and have yet to have any positive changes, I've been getting worse.
I have taken a sleep test (polysom, MSLT) and I've been diagnosed with apnea and given a CPAP. I hate the thing (fit, feel, idea of use...) and find I sleep prolonged periods of time when I use it (14-18 hrs.) an awake feeling like I have a record-book hangover. My doctor says this shoulden't be happening, and blames my shiftwork (which I can't change unless I quit which would leave me underinsured/without coverage and thus untreated)
Still, without CPCP I sleep 12-15 hrs a day (unless I have to go to work then I have my spouse wake me up) and fight sleep while awake. I'm on Provigil (800 mg), but don't find much help with it, but it gets me throuh work. When not working I fall asleep at random during the day, Provigil or not.
In addition I'm diagnosed as chronicly depressed (present since early teens, not related to newer sleep issues). I'm medicated for depression and have been continualy switched to new medications after no/limited improvement was present after 6-8 mo. on the medication. Nothing has really worked here either, and have been in and out of the hospital for this.
A new development has been chronic pain (shoulders and joints) but without injury. Again, I've been placed on a variety of anti-inflamitory meds without reduction in pain.
I also have high blood pressure.
I'm at the end of my rope. My doctors have gradually done all they are willing to do indicating they have run out of options or "don't know" what else to do. I sleep, I work, and I hurt. That's the sum of my life. I'm 24 years old and dread a lifetime of this. Has anyone else had experienced this? What has worked for you and what advice could you offer? Anything anyone could offer would be welcome... thanks.
