Hi Marianne,

Well, I cannot say that I have heard of that particular METHOD, but it sure does sound like Sleep Apnea.

My first guess would be that his throat is still staying partially blocked when he starts to breathe and is making a squeaking noise (which is really just a rapid, high-pitch vibration) rather than a snore (which is a slower, low pitch vibration).

As an experiment, I found that as I was sitting here typing, I could create such a noise by constricting my throat on the inhale. But the blockage was occurring lower in the throat than it would be with snoring.

The real question would be: Is the squeaking occurring on the inhale? If it is (and I'd bet that it is!), then you husband definitely has a problem that should be looked into.

Don't let his being unaware of the problem discourage you from getting him to seek help: Beg, scream, entice, cajole him. His condition could be life threatening. The sleeper themselves not being aware of the problem is true of EVERYONE who has Sleep Apnea. Sleep Apnea is nearly always "diagnosed" by the sleep partner who speaks up about the problem ... THEN ... the doctor gets to confirm it as true, and get paid for it!

Try asking your questions in the Sleep Apnea Forum and I'll bet you find several people who have the same story to tell.

Good Luck,
Honest Expert
