I agree that it might be helpful to consult a therapist. Did something traumatic happen in your life? (Job loss, death or separation from a loved one, domestic disputes, etc.) Your brain is trying to sort through some things and you need to understand what it all means. Remember, images of death can also mean change — maybe it's time to make some changes in your life. A new job, a new apartment, a new relationship …
Meanwhile try to do some deep breathing and relaxation exercises before you go to sleep. If you can relax and try not to dwell on having a nightmare you are much less likely to have one. Watch a comedy before bed. Go for a run after dinner. Do things that make you feel positive about your life. And do find a good therapist who can help you track down whatever is percolating in your subconscious.
By the way, I wasn't sure by your post if you sleepwalk or not — if you think you're leaving your room at night make sure you lock and bolt all outside doors and windows at night (if you don't already) to make sure you don't inadvertently leave your house.
