Yeah, apnea patients are generally NOT the first to know of their problems - it's usually the sleepy (and cranky!) spouse who complains...
In the meantime, ask your spouse to identify what positions you breathe the worst in (usually on the back). Then try some of the tricks to avoid the bad position. Some people sleep more upright, even in recliners. Some wear a t-shirt with tennis balls sewn into the back. Some use special pillows to tilt their head to a better position. You want to make it as easy as possible to keep your airway open, so you don't stop breathing long enough to need to wake up.
Also, it pays to know something about apnea and how they measure it before you go in. If your partner already knows some of this, you have a headstart. Visit the apnea forums to find out what's going to happen during your sleep test.
And man! November is forever away! Consider the possible results of apnea - like high blood pressure, heart disease, death, etc. You may want to call the doc and badger him to bump up the schedule...
