About 1.5 years ago I purchased a 3" memory foam mattress pad to put on top of my then 6 month old medium-firm Simmons Beauty Rest mattress/box spring set (? - the one with the individual coils - made in Janesville, WI). I also encased all components in dust mite proof covers immediately upon delivery, and change the covers on the mattress and now the memory foam pad about every 4 months.
Let us just say that the memory foam pad now has quite a stench. My theory is that it is from soaking up the sweat at night, and things growing in the pad.
Is this a common problem with foam mattress pads, or just a problem with certain types of foam. Are there different memory foams, some of which control this problem better? I have to ask because my previous Simmons mattress, after 15 years of use did not have such a stench (but was full of dust mites).
My basic question is do I have to look forward to replacing the memory foam pad about every year - or can I buy a certain one that will "last" longer.
