Severe sleep onset disorder

Posted by Greg on December 25, 2001 at 11:50:43:

Hey everyone, I have had pretty bad sleep onset difficulties for my whole life. I'm 21 now, and this lack of sleep is severely effecting every aspect of my life. It takes me at least 2 hours to fall asleep each night, regardless of diet, exercise, work schedule or tiredness. I have been on Elavil, Restoril, Ambien, and a few others. I finally found that Doxepin helps me a lot, but unfortunately my liver is now in a toxic state because of chronic use of this medication. I guess that's the problem with these so-called "safe" medications. I have tried to wean myself off the pills slowly, and have not slept in a month as a result. Has anyone had success treating this disorder, or have any other information? Oh yeah, I have had a sleep study and it found that in a ten hour period of possible sleep that I will sleep for only six hours, while the normal person would sleep for nine and a half...that really sucks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greg
