Posted by goodkarma on January 04, 2002 at 13:16:50:I'm 38 and recently recovered from decades of severe depression. I seemed to have gone from hypersomnia (yes I have had a sleep test and surgery for apnea, all better thanks) to some type of insomnia. I just dont' know what type. For weeks in a row I will wake after 2-3 hours of sleep (the sleep is solid and restful) and be fine for 18+ hours then do the 2-3 hours...etc. Aftern about 10 days of this I'm quite insane; seeing things, odd thoughts, and unable to form complete sentances. Then I sleep 8 hours for a few days and am sane again. I do not have a sleep schedule as laying down when I'm not tired causes my legs to ache and move a ridiculous amount. Because of years of depression and the subsiquent medications for that, I hate taking pills but I have tried over the counter sleep aids with no change except my stupidity and clumsiness increase faster then the usual patern.
BTW if your wondering the depression cleared up a few months after the surgery for apnea... in case anyone has been given that option and is weighing the benifits. Just my eperience.
