Frozen Body & Suffocation

Posted by Anonymous Teen on January 09, 2002 at 19:44:16:

Several times, including these last two nights, I've had horrible episodes while sleeping. While my mind is somehow awake, my body is not. I cannot open my eyes or lips, nor can I move my limbs. I have the sensation of suffocating and thus begin to panic, but I cannot scream or make any indication that I am having an episode. These episodes can last up to three minutes or four minutes and are also likely to occur several times in one night (i.e., if I have one epidosde, another starts not long after I try to go back to sleep). There are no premonitions of evil; the only panic is that I cannot breathe and the notion that unless my limbs and eyes move, I will not be able to breathe. It can either happen when I 'wake' up or when I first lie down, but always with my eyes closed. This is making it difficult for me to sleep at night. Does anyone recognize this condition?
