sleep walking and talking

A significant other of mine sleep walks and talks. He gets angry when I try to ask questions about it, because he's embarrassed. I would just like some information on what causes this and how it can possibly be worked on. He refuses to see s doctor about it because he has gone to them before and it didn't help. This was many years ago though, an I imagine technology has found new ways. Thank you.
