Some peolpe with narcolepsy experience things like this, although not everyone who experience them has narc. (It may be useful to visit the narcolepsy forum).
During hypnogic hallucinations (sp?) someone may experience hallucinations (auditory or visual) near falling asleep or waking. Sleep paralysis is also something to look into.
I would 1)tell your doctor about these experiences especially because they seem to scare you 2)search sleepnet.com for these terms to read postings from people who have had similar experiences...I think it would help. Some people learn to accept and live with these things and actually enjoy them by realizing that they are not real. However, you may have something else going on in your body. Checking with your doc is a good idea.
