Hi,
I used to get sleep paralysis a lot as a teen, but don't very often anymore (I'm now in my thirties). I seem to get it when I'm sleep deprived or stressed. Like when I used to be up all night studying for exams and then try to take a nap the next day. It felt like my body zonked out before my "awake-like" awareness.
I'm intrigued about what other aspects of personality or genetics might be correlated with the phenomenon (since not everybody gets it). I'm a thin female with mitral valve prolapse (a fairly common heart condition that can leave a person prone to panic), and I noticed one other woman on this forum said she had MVP. Others spoke of creativity being associated with sleep paralysis. I used to do a lot of art back in hight school and college when the episodes were more frequent and I was even voted the "most artistic" of my high school senior class. I dunno...
Also, depression runs in my family and so does sleep paralysis.
Anyone else have any thoughts about what might be correlated?
Sweet dreams,
Sleepygal
