Dear Sandmama,

Would you please clarify your information above? The phrase "...we are asking all members to limit their posts to 3 when basically covering the same subject" is ambiguous.

I don't understand if "we are asking all members to limit their posts to 3 when basically covering the same subject" means:

3 posts to a single inquiry;
3 posts about a single item (like Tempur-Pedic);
3 posts to a single product type (like "memory foam" mattresses);
or, 3 posts to a single broad category (like "mattresses").

My HOPE is that you are not aiming to limit discussions of mattresses as an important part of the sleep process.

Here's my thinking:

1) Quality of sleep is directly related to the amount of stage 3 and 4 sleep achieved.

2) As a rule, the body doesn't move during these deep stages of sleep (nor during REM sleep). A sleeper must come up to stage 1 or 2 sleep to turn or move.

3) It is well known and understood that the body responds to discomfort by moving away from it during sleep (Thus the tennis-ball trick to train a back sleeper to quit sleeping on their back).

4) A surface that creates any sort of discomfort will result in more time spent in stage 1 and 2 sleep, to move, resulting in less time spent in stage 3 and 4 sleep, resulting in poorer quality sleep.

More Comfort = Better Sleep

While virtually ignored by sleep research, I believe the surface used for sleeping -- a thing that makes constant contact with the body for the whole time spent sleeping ... or trying to sleep ... creating or relieving pressure points -- is hugely important.

And this is why I am here trying to help people make the best choices possible when selecting a mattress. I try to be both complete and thorough, because I am discussing a topic that may affect the sleep EVERY member here, at one time or another, or all the time, if they're on a poor mattress choice.

Of course, I will gladly follow whatever guidelines you set, but I'm not clear on exactly what you mean.

Thank you for having such a helpful forum in which to interact with sleepers!
