Chronic Sleeplessness and Muscle twitching

Posted by Dee on July 21, 2002 at 12:14:42:

Wondering if anyone can offer advice for my mom. She hasn't been able to sleep in over 6 months. Claims she gets less than an hour-90 min. of uninterrrupted sleep per night. According to her, started when she had a dream and woke too quickly- she beleives she was caught between conscious/unconsciousness and woke up with muscle pulsations in her legs. Since then, the muscle twitches occur when she 's trying to sleep and she can't get any significant rest at night. She said she can see the pulsations and has shown them to my dad. My mom is in her 50's -she is seeing the family Dr. and a psychologist- currently she's taking Benzodiazepines- she claims none of the sleep drugs prescribed have helped her get a restful nights sleep. They have ruled out any exclusive causes including menopause and have sent her for brain, spinal mri's and blood tests. Wondering if her condition may be from multiple causes... She's not herself and family is concerned. She has anxiety about not sleeping and feels her health and immunity will suffer. She doesn't smile or have energy to live normally. She works a FT job- but is miserable. Has anyone experienced similiar?
