Doug,

Based on your own observations during the night (short breaths, gasping for air, snoring) and the other symptoms (headaches, not feeling rested, etc.) these symptoms sound allot like Sleep Apnea. You can read all about it on this site and even take the sleep test.

After that, a good first step would be to go see a sleep doctor about this. They can monitor you over night in a "sleep study" and hook you up to all sorts of equipment that can diagnose various sleep disorders.

If you read up on Sleep Apnea (and agree that this might be a possibility) your family doctor should have no problem giving you a referral (if you need one) to an accredited sleep lab. I have a feeling that the sleep study will find what you are looking for since your symptoms seem to be quite apparent.

BTW: that's impressive that you took the time and effort to tape yourself sleeping. Most people wouldn't go that far. In fact.. you could even show the tape to your doctor as evidence!
