It is considered a parasomnia, and as long as they are not too frequent or to disturbing it is not usually treated. But if they are very frequent and as bad as you describe, there is treatment. In order to get the best treatment you will have to see a sleep specialist. Usually a all night recording is not necessary. Diagnosis can be made on history.
