Posted by paf on September 17, 2002 at 14:59:49:Hi Bill,
Thanks for the post. I put a nightlight in my bathroom. It hasn't stopped my episodes, but on some level makes me feel better. Light generally doesn't stop me at all. When I get in my cooking frenzy all the lights and electrical gadgets are on and left on until I wake up in the morning. I haven't had a real bad night since my post, but part of the reason is I am afraid to sleep, so now insomnia is the problem again.
I haven't gotten any good advice about the whole situation. My episodes never seem to relate to dreaming, and when I had room mates, they would be able to wake me. Anytime they would try to have a conversation with me I would wake up. It is like if I have to really think about something, I will wake up confused. I "rigged" myapartment last week-end and now if I open my living room window or front door an alarm will go off. Let's hope it works...
I will not take meds again, but my sleep disorder doc put me on Trazadone a few years ago to control the walking. It didn't work for me, but other people have had luck with it.
Might be something to try if you don't mind being on medicine. Thanks again, and I will keep everyone up to date if I get more info. Good luck! Patricia
