breathing problems, but not apnea

Posted by Lazy Suzan on September 27, 2002 at 09:55:37:

I hope I am in the right forum; I sure need help. I just recently had a sleep study and was told that I do not have sleep apnea, but I am still having trouble breathing at night. I feel like there is something pushing on the larynx whenever I lie down. I had not realized how much I was struggling to breathe until I started cutting out the sleep meds. I had a panic attack last night when I thought I wasn't breathing that I had to take .5mg Xanax just to calm down. I think I am so afraid that I will quit breathing that I can't relax enough to sleep. Also I have developed a horrible cough that sounds like I'm coughing up a lung. My doc put me on a couple of inhalers, but I don't think that will fix my problem. Has anyone else had this problem? I got one hour sleep last night and am exhausted.
