If it's happening daily, you may want to consult a doctor. It's not unusual for people to experience this infrequently, but I don't believe daily occurences are considered normal. I'm sure a sleep specialist would be able to help you with it.

At any rate, what you are most likely experiencing is a condition known as sleep paralysis, which sometimes occurs after waking from a dream (whether you remember dreaming or not). Essentially, the brain has a type of safety switch that paralyizes your body while you dream, so that you don't act out your dream in your sleep. Sometimes, the switch doesn't stop the paralysis immediately upon waking or the end of your dream - it can take a few minutes.

You do have the right idea, though. Just relax and wait patiently, as control will come back. And as for preventing it, I'm sure a sleep specialist can teach you techniques to prevent it from happening (or least as frequently).
