Can only sleep during day

Posted by Timmy on December 13, 2002 at 16:34:08:

My internal clock is all haywire and I can't seem to correct it, no matter what I do. I need to sleep between 6am and 2pm - for me, those hours feel like the middle of the night. Between the hours of 11pm and 6am, I'm as wide-awake as can be and there's no way that I can fall asleep. When I tell people about my problem, they seem to think that if I force myself to stay awake all day, the problem will quickly correct it itself. I'm sure they think I'm just lazy and that I don't want to get a job! If I stay awake for 24 hours one of two things usually happens. Either I still find it impossible to sleep at night, even though I'm tired (funny how you can be tired but not sleepy!)or I will be able to sleep that night - but the next night I won't be able to. I don't want to be like this for ever - it's ruining my life. I even had to drop out of university because of it. What can I do?
