Daily Sleep Battle.....HELP!!!

Posted by nvr_engh_zs on December 30, 2002 at 02:53:38:

Hi everyone,
I know there have been postings similiar to this one, but the only one that seemed closest to my problem was posted over 2 years ago....In posting this message, I am not looking for a medical diagnosis (this wouldnt be the place to find one anyways), I just want to hear some feedback, and discuss this little hurdle I face every day with others that face a similiar one.....so here it is....

The only way I can express how I feel about my fondness of sleep, is comparing it to an addiction. It almost feels as though I am addicticted to sleep.

To say I battle to get up out of bed each morning is an under statement, I literally go to war every morning. Here are some things that I do

-I play an elimination game every morning to see how much time I can cut out of my morning routine, just to get an extra 7 min of sleep; or if what I am waking up for really isnt all that important, I will just skip it to sleep instead (i.e. a class at college).
-I dont have any trouble falling asleep at night.
-My blood panel is normal (I brought this to the attention of my doctor a couple of years ago)
-I can ALWAYS go back to sleep...in between snooze, about a half hour after a workout...anytime, but I do come out of my "dazed state" around 7pm and it lasts until about 11pm to 2am, depending on when I normally go to sleep at that time of my life.
-In a matter of 2 days I learned how to sleep through a nail gun in the bedroom above me.
-I feel sleepy through out most of the day, though I dont spontaneously fall asleep or fall asleep in public places.
-If someone wakes me up to tell me something or remind me of something that needs to be done, I wont remember the person waking me at all if I fall back to sleep.
-I dont have a depression problem
-I am not lazy, I just enjoy sleeping
-Most of the people in my family arent "morning poeple", they also do not have a sleep problem to this extent.
-It doesnt matter how many hours of sleep I get, 6 or 16, I never feel refreshed with 6hrs or 16hrs.
-I have felt this way for as long as I can remember (I used to get grounded for making my dad late for work because I snuck back into bed when he wasnt looking)
-I am now 20 yrs old.
-I do get occasional migraines lasting for about 3 days usually once a month (if I catch them early enough 3 advil will work well)
-Oh and last but not least, whenever I have to wake up in the morning (any time of day with AM after it) just to get out of bed, I tell myself I will have time to take a nap later. Which I dont usually get a nap, because I dont have time before I actually feel awake at 6pm to take one.

I am sorry for the long post, but I am frustrated at how difficult it is for me to wake up, and how my life is ruled by my sleep. I would like to hear from people with suggestions or similiar stories...PLEASE

Thank you
Ps Sorry for any typos, I dint have time to proof read the message.
